Walking and eating my way to wellbeing

“I truly have my dream job.” says Lindsey. After spending over 25 years as a dental nurse she was a bit restless and started thinking about a change of career, something a bit different. So she took the plunge and struck out on her own. “I was looking for a job that was flexible, rewarding and made me happy everyday. I decided to start my own dog walking business almost two years ago. I’ve now built a very strong customer base and I walk the loveliest dogs.”

So, if you’re thinking Lindsey must lead (no pun intended) a pretty active life, you’d be spot on. “A normal day for me would start with my puppy visits -  a short walk and a wee play, usually three pups daily. Mid morning, I start my group walks, usually three group walks daily, with four to five dogs in each group.”

It’s a busy day to say the least, especially when Lindsey puts her all into the service she offers; “My walks last an hour and I try to make each walk a wee adventure for my dogs and for me,” she tells us. That’s not to mention the fact that she has her own dog, Nico, to take care of when she gets home!

Staying fuelled up for those brisk walks is essential. “I love Nairn's Cheesy Oatcakes, perfect to have in my bag for when I’m out and about.” Although it’s all about balance of course, so for Lindsey the Stem Ginger Oat Biscuits are a must when it’s coffee break time and she gets a well-deserved seat! “In my last job I’d sometimes get ‘hangry’, but not so much now. Fortunately I can have a snack anytime.”

As far as Lindsey’s concerned the secret to a ‘Good Food Mood’ is simple. ‘It’s about having energy, a clear head and being to get on with the job with a spring in your step!”

Nutritionist Fiona Lawson says:

It can be hard to eat well when we’re on the go, so I applaud Lindsey for making smart choices. People who are active require more carbohydrates, and the slow-release form of energy provided by Nairn’s Oatcakes supports steady-state activity such as walking. Lindsey clearly enjoys her new job, and her relaxed state of mind will help her digestion too. To further enhance her satiation, Lindsey could pair a source of protein with her Narin’s Oatcakes. A little pot of hummus, for example, is a portable option. The clever balance of low-GL carbohydrates and protein will help to ensure she wards off that ‘hangry’ feeling for good.
