Gluten Free

Deliciously full of goodness, not gluten

One of the most common questions we're asked is "Are your oatcakes gluten free?"

The answer is yes, but we have a lot more than oatcakes. We believe oats are for everyone to enjoy. That’s why we have an ever-growing gluten free range that doesn’t cut any corners  on taste or safety. Cooking and preparing food should be fun and interesting. It shouldn’t be overshadowed by worrying about your ingredients.

We don’t do things by halves

To help take any worry away, we ensure that the wholegrain oats we use in our GF products are grown, farmed and milled to the highest standard before being baked to perfection in our purpose-built 'state of the art' gluten free bakery.  We ensure additional control measures and inspections are in place from field to plate to avoid any cross contamination with other ingredients such as wheat, barley and rye. We test all oats before they leave the mill and before products hit the shelves so that you can be sure all our gluten free products are just that. All you have to think about if which one you’re going to try first!

All of our testing is carried out by UKAS accredited laboratory to ELISA standards and we are proud to be certified by Coeliac UK and carry the Crossed Grain logo (this is an important difference to the oats used in our main oatcake range which, whilst naturally gluten free, could potentially become contaminated by gluten bearing grains during growing or milling and we do not test those for gluten).

Gluten Free Guidelines for Health Professionals

A coeliac diagnosis can feel understandably restrictive for some patients in what they can and can’t eat. However, the British Society of Gastroenterology recently confirmed that gluten free oats can be safely enjoyed by the majority of those with the condition – without any need to wait months after being diagnosed.

Some coeliacs may find that they have a reaction to Avenin (a gluten-like protein found in oats), However, 95% of sufferers actually have a natural tolerance to it.

High fibre, full of vitamins and minerals and with a low GI index (meaning they’re a great source of slow release of energy)... there are a lot of compelling reasons for coeliacs to try and keep oats in their diet. Find out more about The Benefits of Oats and you’ll be able to keep your patients updated on all the health benefits they might be missing out on.

As one door closes another one opens - Nairn’s diverse product range and simple, natural and wholesome approach can become a safe go-to staple for your patients.
